Today, we will discuss California’s initiatives they are taking with solar and wind power. Let’s find out what they have planned and how it can better the environment!

  1. Renewable Energy Surge: In 2021, California saw a significant boost in its renewable energy sector, with over 37% of its electricity coming from sources meeting the Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS). This increase, driven by solar and wind power, highlights California’s commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future, reducing fossil fuels and leading the way in addressing climate change.
  2. Diverse Clean Energy Mix: California has made significant progress in transitioning to clean energy sources, with nearly 59% of its retail electricity sales coming from non-fossil fuel resources, including large hydroelectric generation and nuclear power. Solar generation has experienced impressive growth, and the state remains committed to reducing fossil fuel dependence.
  3. Vision for a Sustainable Grid: California remains unwavering in its pursuit of a 100% clean electrical grid, leaving behind fossil fuels. This vision includes breaking barriers to new clean energy projects and fostering energy innovation for a healthier and more positive future.
  4. Ambitious Legislation: Senate Bill 100 accelerated California’s RPS goals to achieve 60% renewable energy by 2030 and mandates that renewable and zero-carbon sources power 100% of the state’s electricity sales by 2045, with targets set for 2030 and 2040.
  5. Energy Storage Expansion: The state is actively expanding battery storage, increasing capacity nearly twentyfold since 2019, from 250 MW to 5,000 MW, with projections indicating a tenfold increase to 52,000 MW by midcentury. These efforts complement California’s abundant renewable energy resources and support its clean energy goals.
